Twelve Venis for VU Amsterdam and Amsterdam UMC (VUmc location)

12 November 2020
The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded 162 promising young academics—12 of them from VU Amsterdam and the Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc—Veni grants worth up to €250,000 each. This funding enables the recipients to spend three years developing their own research ideas.

Veni grants are awarded annually by the NWO. This year, 1,127 researchers submitted an admissible research proposal, 162 of which have been awarded funding. The applications were assessed by external experts from the relevant fields. This Veni round involves a total amount of €41.5 million.

NWO Talent Programme

Veni, along with Vidi and Vici, forms part of the NWO Talent Programme (previously known as the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme or Vernieuwingsimpuls). Veni grants are aimed at excellent researchers who have recently obtained their PhDs. Researchers are free to submit a proposal on their own subject. This way, the NWO supports innovative research, awarding grants based on the quality of the researcher, the innovative nature of the research, its expected academic contribution and opportunities for knowledge utilisation.
